Fun Learning Activity Books

This summer, one of our summer rhythms is to spend time in the mornings doing learning activities with Mabel and Matilda. We choose a few activities that encourage reading, writing, and math skills. We enjoy using a variety of hands-on methods along with a mix of fun learning activity books, workbooks, and flash cards.

School Zone is our favorite brand for learning activities, and they recently gifted us some new flash cards, workbooks, and activity books. We are happy to provide a product review of these items!

Mabel recently completed remote kindergarten, and is headed into in-person 1st grade in the fall. Matilda has one more year of preschool home learning before she’ll start kindergarten the following year. They are both enjoying these fun learning activity books from School Zone. They are perfect activities for the little learners in your life!

Write & Reuse Workbook Collection

We love the Write & Reuse Workbook Collection because the girls can use washable dry erase markers and complete the activities over and over again. It makes it easy for the reusable workbooks to be passed down and shared between our 3 daughters.

Tracing Fun! Write & Reuse Workbook (for ages 3 to 5) – This workbook introduces kids to the concept of tracing, as they progress through tracing lines, maze tracks, shapes, letters, and numbers. This book is full of colorful illustrations and is a fun introduction to forming straight lines, diagonal lines, and curved lines. This is a fun way for Matilda to practice the fine motor skills that will help her with writing.

Alphabet Fun! Write & Reuse Workbook (ages 4 to 6) – This workbook focuses specifically on tracing and writing letters, and phonics concepts. There are activities for each letter, such as identifying the beginning sounds in picture images, matching uppercase to lowercase letters, and finding pictures that start with a specific letter. Matilda enjoys writing the letters and saying the corresponding phonics sounds outloud.

Printing Fun! Write & Reuse Workbook (ages 4 to 6) – This workbook also focuses on tracing and writing letters, with the emphasis on legible handwriting. The activities along with each letter reinforce the letter strokes used to properly form and write the letter. This has been a great workbook for Matilda to practice her letter formation.

Activity Fun! Write & Reuse Workbook (ages 4 to 6) – This workbook is full of fun activities like mazes, hidden pictures, and connect-the-dots. It also includes fun visual activities, such as identifying visual differences in 2 images, finding “silly” things in a picture, and complete-the-drawing pages. It’s a fun way for Matilda to practice problem solving, visual perceptual skills, and fine motor skills.

Numbers Fun! Write & Reuse Workbook (ages 5 to 6) – This workbook teaches early math skills, including counting, putting numbers in numerical order, and basic addition and subtraction. Matilda enjoys counting the colorful pictures of animals and writing down how many animals she sees on the page.

Stuck on Learning Collection

The Stuck On Learning sticker books create an interactive learning experience as kids get to locate the correct sticker in order to solve a problem, remove the sticker from the backing, and then place it in the correct location.

Math Stickers: A Stuck On Learning Book (ages 3 to 6) – This book covers various math skills, such as counting, matching, writing numbers 1-12, basic math, and telling time. Matilda enjoys finding the correct number or picture stickers in the back of the book, and using the stickers to complete the math pages.

Learning by Grade Level

School Zone does a great job of differentiating their various flash cards and workbooks on skills necessary for each grade. We chose math, reading, and spelling workbooks for Mabel that focus on skills she’ll need in 1st grade, and a few new flash card sets. You can search their full line of products to find learning activities for the specific grade level you need, from preschool to 6th grade!

Addition 0-12 Flash Cards (ages 6+) and Subtraction 0-12 Flash Cards (ages 6+) – These flash card sets are full of math problems using numbers 0-12. Math flashcards are helpful for reinforcing math concepts and mental math skills. Mabel loves seeing how many she math problems she can solve in 5 minutes.

Math Basics (ages 6-7): This workbook focuses on a variety of 1st grade math skills. It is deigned to teach, review, and extend important math concepts, such as counting, matching numbers to objects, and adding/subtracting with a number line. Mabel enjoys the challenge of completing math activities focused on numbers 11-20.

Beginning Reading (ages 6-7): This workbook is full of engaging reading activities at a 1st grade level that build skills in areas such as short and long vowels, cause and effect, story order, and syllables. These simple reading strategies also help Mabel when she is reading early reader picture books.

Spelling Puzzles (ages 6-7): This workbook covers spelling skills for 1st graders, such as beginning and ending sounds, compound words, consonants, and vowel sounds. This is a great supplement to encourage Mabel to practice skills that will help her with her writing and spelling.

About me

Hi, my name is Tyler Moore. My wife and I live with our three young daughters in a 700- square-foot apartment in New York City. I began my tidying journey when an early-30’s crisis invited me to reflect upon, challenge, and change my patterns of daily living. I quit my job as a school administrator, returned to teaching, and started Tidy Dad to help others tidy, simplify, and find joy in their lives. I firmly believe the tidying process can transform your life. I’d love for you to join me in exploring ways that tidying can make room for what’s important in life.
