Our oldest daughter Mabel has been in 100% remote kindergarten all school year. My wife Emily’s background is in pediatric occupational therapy, and this year she has supported Mabel’s remote schedule and supplemented her learning between online classes. She is sharing some of the best items we have found to help with math activities for kindergarten kids. These math products could be used for remote learning, homeschooling, or supplementing math practice at home.
hand2mind 20-Bead Wood Rekenrek: This counting frame is perfect for building number sense to 20 because it provides a hands-on way to see and count each number. The beads slide across the rack to help with practicing adding and subtracting. The red/white color design helps to build a strong sense of 5 & 10.
hand2mind 100-Bead Wood Rekenrek: This counting frame helps to expand number sense to 100 because students are able to visualize each number. The beads can be used to demonstrate a concrete example of arithmetic problems. The unique color coding helps changes at 50, highlighting that 100 is composed of 2 sets of 50.
Time Timer MOD Visual Timer: This 60-minute visual timer can sit on a child’s desktop and help with time management, task completion, and anticipating transitions. It is only 3.6 x 3.6 inches, so it is easily portable around the home. It is perfect for signaling a specific time interval for an activity, and visually counts down the time.
123 Count with Me book: This interactive trace-and-flip book lets children trace the numbers 1-20 by following their fingers along a tracing track. Each page is illustrated with pictures of objects that match the corresponding number. There is also a lift-a-flap to count the final object on each page. This is a fun way to practice number formation and counting to 20.
Learning Resources Bear Counters: These little 1 inch bears are a perfect hands-on way to visualize arithmetic problems and practice counting to 100. The bears can also be used for color recognization, sorting, and creating color patterns.
Play Shifu Plugo Count: This STEM gaming kit turns a device (phone, tablet, etc) into a hands-on learning game. It includes a foldable gamepad, a Count Spike, 4 arithmetic operators (+ – x /), and 2 sets of digits 0-9. The game consists of story-based math challenges that need to be solved with a number and/or arithmetic operators. Kids can answer the problems by visually locating the correct answer and then placing it onto the Count Spike. They set us up with promo code THETIDYDAD so you can save 20% if you order!

My wife and I live with our three young girls in a 700-square-foot apartment in New York City. I started Tidy Dad to help others tidy, simplify, and find joy in their lives. I firmly believe the tidying process can transform your life. I’d love for you to join me in exploring ways that tidying can make room for what’s important in life.

Hi, my name is Tyler Moore. My wife and I live with our three young daughters in a 700- square-foot apartment in New York City. I began my tidying journey when an early-30’s crisis invited me to reflect upon, challenge, and change my patterns of daily living. I quit my job as a school administrator, returned to teaching, and started Tidy Dad to help others tidy, simplify, and find joy in their lives. I firmly believe the tidying process can transform your life. I’d love for you to join me in exploring ways that tidying can make room for what’s important in life.
