Our family of five shares one small space bathroom in our NYC apartment. We’re sharing a small space bathroom tour, and also including links to a few of our favorite bathroom organization products!

Our Small Space Bathroom

This angle shows our entire small space bathroom! The standing area is 5 feet wide by 2 feet long. We have a 20″ x 32″ white and grey bath rug and a small step stool in this space. Here’s another great bath mat option.

The left wall is the window, the right wall is the shower with a mini tub, and the back wall is the doorway. We store all toiletry items for all 5 of us in this area. We were able to maximize storage space in our small space bathroom by adding organization products that fit the space. Since we have a fixed amount of space in the bathroom, we use that space to guide how many toiletries we can store at any given time.

Storage Wall Shelf

We’ve been wanting to add some extra storage to our bathroom for a while, and the wall area over the toilet seemed to be the only location that could work. We didn’t want to use a traditional over-the-toilet storage shelf that has legs that go down to the floor. We use the floor areas on either side of the toilet to store a small trash can and a narrow rolling storage cart.

Our 4-tier storage wall shelf is used to hold our white hand towels and white washcloths, a natural weave basket with hair supplies, 3 glass apothecary jars for cotton circles, cotton balls, and q-tips, and an accent vanity organizer for nail care supplies. Our wall shelf is currently sold out online, but here is another option for a wall shelf from the same brand.

Bathroom Cabinet

This cabinet is where we store some of our most used daily items. Here’s a link to a blog I wrote about updating this bathroom cabinet. I added self-adhesive white wallpaper to the back of the cabinet, and then filled the shelves with various sizes of clear bins.

Under-the-Sink Storage

For years, we had random bins under the sink, but we finally took the time to measure and select stackable storage organizers with sliding drawers that fit the space. Due to the location of the pipes under our sink, we were able to fit 3 of the 8″ by 12″ by 6″ size organizers on the left side, and 4 of the 8″ x 12″ x 4″ size organizers on the right side.

Toilet Seat

When we were ready to start potty training with our oldest daughter, we researched several toddler-sized potty chairs, but quickly realized that we didn’t have any available space in the bathroom to store the potty seat or a removable potty training toilet ring.

We discovered the TinyHiney toilet seat, which converts an adult-sized toilet seat into a toddler-sized seat, using a special toilet lid that has a toddler seat magnetically stored inside. To make the toilet accessible to young children, you simply open the toilet lid and then pull down the smaller toddler ring. The toddler seat does not pull off, which means that it’s safe and secure for little ones. PLUS there’s nothing extra to store.

Towel Hooks

We hung a row of wall-mounted hooks on the wall between the shower and the doorway. This is where the girls hang their towels, while Emily and I have our bath towels (which we recently upgraded to this set of quick-dry towels) hanging from a row of hooks at the top of the bathroom door. We also added a set of hooks/clips that we can hang from the towel bar or shower curtain rod, and they are great for drying washcloths, wet swimsuits, etc. The clips/hooks also easy to pack with us when we travel, and then we can dry items at the beach, camping, or in hotel bathrooms with limited drying hooks.
