The cabinet over the bathroom sink has been in DESPERATE need of an organizational and aesthetic refresh. Our family of 5 shares one tiny bathroom in our NYC apartment and this bathroom cabinet provides valuable toiletry storage. It’s where we store tooth brushes for the entire family and where Emily and I store our skincare and toiletry items.
The cabinet showed significant signs of wear and tear. The original white finish of the cabinet had come off in several places because of water damage. The three shelves provide a good amount of storage but for far too long they’ve been crammed full. Whenever I open the cabinet, things fall out into the sink. For years I just ignored the cabinet, unsure of what to do in order to update the space.
But recently while washing my face, I had an epiphany! We’d installed wall paper to the walls of our bathroom cottage, so why not apply the skills learned from that project to this tiny space! I ordered a roll of white self-adhesive wall paper and a set of clear acrylic bins. I set out to transform the cabinet into a thing of beauty for less than $37!
The roll of white self-adhesive wall paper measures 15.7 inches by 118 inches and is designed to line shelves and recover tables and doors. I chose to cover the back of the cabinet, the back of the cabinet doors, and shelves. To apply the paper, you remove the backing and then install like you would wall paper. I was able to cover the back of the cabinet, the 3 cabinet doors, and shelves with one roll!
I also ordered a 24-pack of drawer organizers. The pack comes with 5 different sizes of organizers. Three of the bins have a width 3 inches. These perfectly fit on the cabinet shelves. The wider width bins will be used in the drawer organizers that we have underneath the sink. The bins help to zone and contain the toiletries in the space.
I spent $37 on this project and was able to transform the cabinet in a little under and hour. What was once a clutter eyesore, is now a tidy, organized, and beautiful bathroom cabinet. I’m now excited to open the cabinet and get ready for my day!
My wife and I live with our three young girls in a 700-square-foot apartment in New York City. I started Tidy Dad to help others tidy, simplify, and find joy in their lives. I firmly believe the tidying process can transform your life. I’d love for you to join me in exploring ways that tidying can make room for what’s important in life.

Hi, my name is Tyler Moore. My wife and I live with our three young daughters in a 700- square-foot apartment in New York City. I began my tidying journey when an early-30’s crisis invited me to reflect upon, challenge, and change my patterns of daily living. I quit my job as a school administrator, returned to teaching, and started Tidy Dad to help others tidy, simplify, and find joy in their lives. I firmly believe the tidying process can transform your life. I’d love for you to join me in exploring ways that tidying can make room for what’s important in life.
