Playroom Reset

We reset the playroom for a new week of play. This week’s playroom reset is a Play Nursery Theme!

Our family of 5 lives in a 750-square-foot apartment in New York City. Several years ago we transformed the room that connects our living room to the bedrooms into a playroom. We turned our pantry into a toy rotation closet after completing a toy inventory, so that we don’t have to store toys in the playroom. The playroom measures 7 feet wide and 11 feet long. This is the room where all of the play happens!

Play Kitchen

Our three girls love to take toys that have been out in the playroom for a while and put them back into the toy rotation closet, and then bring new things out. This system allows us to maximize space in the playroom. The room doesn’t have storage cabinets or a closet, and precious floor space isn’t used to store toys. It’s fun to rotate out toys and set up new play experiences for the girls.

The play kitchen and toy food remain in the playroom all of the time. Once per week we like to reset the rest of the space with fresh toys from our rotation. This week’s playroom reset is a Play Nursery Theme!

Playroom Organization

We have 2 low shelves in the playroom instead of a small table, with a set of little white chairs. The girls use this area to sit and draw. They also use the shelves during imaginative play as a doctor’s examining table or a grocery store conveyor belt.

We also have 3 small bins that we store under the shelves. They are emptied each time we reset the playroom and filled with new items. This week we filled them with doll clothes, doll blankets, and purses/bags.

Dollhouse

Dollhouse Area

We have a wooden dollhouse shelf installed on the wall in the playroom. Sometimes we use this area to display other small toys, but this week we turned it back into a dollhouse. We have a set of wooden dollhouse furniture, and wooden posable dollhouse dolls, as well as a set of vintage dollhouse furniture and characters.

Baby Doll Nursery

The girls love having a nursery area for their baby dolls, complete with a clothing closet, double doll stroller, highchair, and a shopping cart to take them to their large corner play kitchen to choose snacks.

Trash to Treasure

We love finding Trash to Treasure finds in New York City, and our apartment is full of them! Our most recent find was this doll closet. It was set on the curb to be discarded as we walked home from the park. We talked to the couple who was setting it out and they said it was a recent purchase for their daughter who didn’t end up playing with it. They couldn’t give up the floor space to an unused toy, but it found a new home with our girls!
