Reading is a daily part of our family rhythm. Our daughters LOVE getting new books to read. Candlewick Press recently sent us 4 of their new holiday books for kids. This year we plan to wrap each of our holiday books individually, and open one each evening to read together as a family in the days leading up to Thanksgiving and Christmas. We are excited to add these 4 new holiday books for kids to our collection! Check out our full IGTV review, and links to each of the books below.
Peppa Pig and the Day of Giving Thanks (with a coloring poster on the back of the book cover!) – This is the sweet story of Peppa Pig and her family taking a nature walk together on a beautiful fall day and expressing thankfulness for things they see. During their walk, a rainstorm catches them by surprise! Peppa Pig does not feel thankful for the rain, but then the rain leaves behind a fun surprise for the family. The book is perfect for the fall season and for celebrating Thanksgiving, but also can promote the value of finding gratitude in unexpected circumstances all year long!
Dinosaur Christmas! by Penny Dale – In this book, Santa’s sleigh is stuck in a snowstorm and dinosaurs come to rescue him! They drive snow plows, snowmobiles, hovercrafts, and helicopters to make their way to the North Pole. This is a perfect book for young readers, because it is full of fun sound effect words, and follows a repetitive, predictable rhythm.
Mouse’s Night Before Christmas by Tracey Corderoy – This book takes the classic “not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse” story and explains it wasn’t quite so. There was one mouse who was awake and met Santa and embarked on a magical sleigh ride adventure! This is a fun book that celebrates the gift of friendship.
Christmas is Joy by Emma Dodd – This story features two reindeers talking about the joy of the Christmas season. The book celebrates joy, laughter, family, love, and peace. The sparkly illustrations give the effect of snow!
