The first stop on our “Summer 2019 Tour” was Jones Beach State Park on Long Island! Only a one-hour drive from our apartment, we’re always amazed at how quickly the city streets give way to beautiful beaches!
We put together a list of 10 items we ALWAYS pack for a beach trip with kids, and we are sharing it with you! Add snacks, beach towels, and sunscreen, and you’ll be all set!
10 Essential Items for a Beach Trip with Kids:

1. Coleman Beach Shade Tent - We’ve had our beach tent for years, and it has made trips to the beach so much more enjoyable. The tent is easy to set up, has an extended front floor area that can zip closed for privacy, a back window that unzips for ventilation, storage pockets, and even a clothesline to hang wet clothing. We also love that it fits easily into a small carrying case which makes storage during the off-season a breeze!
2. Radio Flyer Ultimate EZ Folding Wagon - This wagon is perfect for pulling kids or cargo to a playground, park, or even through sand. It has seatbacks and seatbelts for 2 kids, 4 cup holders (2 inside for kids, 2 outside for adults), a removable UV protection canopy, and a one-hand fold for easy storage! Pulling this wagon also makes you one of the coolest parents at the beach! Trust me!
3. i play. One-Piece Swim Sunsuit - This is the perfect solution for baby/toddler sun protection! It fully covers the shoulders, and also helps prevent sand from inevitably finding its way into a swim diaper! It’s lightweight, breathable, and can be ordered in many designs!
4. i play. Long Sleeve Rashguard Shirt - These shirts offer great sun protection for older toddlers/kids, while still allowing them to wear swim bottoms or swim trunks for easy bathroom trips. Covering kids in sunscreen can be difficult, but these rashguards help make the process so much faster!
5. i play. Brim Sun Protection Hat - The wide brims on these hats provide amazing sun protection! They are made of a light-weight UPF 50+ material that dries quickly, and they have a tie strap and adjustable toggle for a comfortable fit. They come in 0-6 month, 9-18 month, and 2T-4T sizes, and LOTS of colors!
6. BIB-ON Flexible Sunglasses - We love these flexible frame sunglasses for kids because they are extremely durable and even come with their own cloth cases. They can be ordered in 2-packs, and we love having multiple pairs to keep in the bag & car.
7. Salt Water Sandals - Our kids live in these sandals all summer and they are essentially their one summer shoe! They look great with shorts, dresses, and swimsuits! The straps are 100% leather, they have a thick rubber sole, and 2 adjustable buckles (across the toes and around the ankle). They can even be worn in water, so they’re perfect for an afternoon at the splash pad or a day at the beach!
8. PackIt Freezable Lunch Bag - This lunch bag is great for everyday use, but even better for a picnic or beach trip when the food is going to be outside for a while. There is a freezable gel built right into the walls of the bag, so you don’t need any extra ice packs. You simply store the lunch bag in the freezer and then pull it out, fill it, and it keeps your food cold all day!
9. Skip Hop Water Bottle - This is our current favorite water bottle because it doesn’t leak! It has a cap that our kids can open and close independently, with a locking tab to provide an extra level of protection against spills when you toss it into a bag.
10. B. Toys - Beach Toys - Our kids love to play in the sand! This set includes a toy bucket, a truck for moving sand, a sifter, watering can, rake, shovel, pinwheel, and sand molds! It even includes a carry bag with a mesh panel!
