As a NYC family of five in a small apartment, we are always out and exploring on the weekends. We love having fun family adventures in our city. This is our list of the top 5 essentials for a NYC day with kids.

The Backpack

NYC day with Kids: the backpack

The Backpack: This lightweight, water-resistant backpack fits our family’s snacks, water bottles, and any other little items we need for a day out. It has a large interior section, and 2 smaller exterior pockets that zip closed. It is a great size for a day out exploring the city!

Stain Treater

Stain Treater: A small spray bottle of stain treater is the key to eating with kids, and never being caught unprepared on the go. Our favorite stain treater also comes in a wipes version, or you can grab a bundle with both. You can easily remove stains from clothing as soon as they happen!

Toddler Carrier

Toddler Carrier: This toddler carrier is a great stroller alternative for navigating subways, buses, or busy sidewalks and museums. It can be worn on the front or back, and fits kids up to 60 lbs. Our three year old still fits comfortably inside, and will even take naps on the go! (also available on Amazon)

Scooters

Scooters: These lightweight, foldable scooters are the easiest way for kids to get around! Our youngest daughter has the mini version for kids ages 2-5, and our older daughters have the maxi version for kids ages 5-12. They use them every day for getting to and from school, and often on weekend adventures!

Waterproof Sneakers

Waterproof Sneakers: NYC adventure days always involve a lot of walking! You never know when a rainstorm might pop up, and wearing lightweight, comfortable waterproof sneakers means you are always prepared, rain or shine. It is so much easier to walk outside when you don’t get wet socks!
