I’m sharing my swim essentials for men! I love to swim laps on weekends and during summertime visits to our Woodland Cottage in Pennsylvania. I love the rhythmical nature of swimming and how I’m able to work out my entire body. During swims, I’m alone and able to enjoy the quiet. This summer I am training for my first triathlon!
As I’ve progressed in my lap swim skills, I purchased lap swim suits and other swim gear like swim caps and goggles that helped me increase my speed in the water. Swimming became a physical and mental exercise for me. Here are the items that I have found to be most helpful for my swim workouts.
These smart swim goggles have transformed how I workout in the pool. Using the FORM app on my phone, I’m able to select and customize workouts, and then the workout is displayed in the lens of the googles. The display on the screen tells me my swim distance, when to switch strokes, and keeps track of my time. I enjoy the variety of different swim workouts available on the app. There are 2 versions: swim 1 & swim 2.
If you’re looking for basic swim goggles, this is a good one! They have UV shield, shatter-resistant lenses, and an anti-fog coating. They also come with three sizes of interchangeable nose pieces so that you can get a custom fit for comfort.
I wear this silicone swim cap when swimming laps because it reduces drag in the water. It keeps my goggles secured on my head and face when jumping in and out of the pool and flip-turning. This swim cap is designed to be easy to put on, is tear-resistant, and protects my hair from chlorine. It comes in lots of different colors, giving lots of options if you want to match it to your swimwear.
I like to incorporate kick drills into my swim workouts. This kickboard is a great size for both adults and kids. It’s lightweight and durable, and features two hand cut outs, making it ideal for various kicking drills and general swimming practice. It is available in 12 different fun colors, so each family member can choose a favorite!
Swim paddles are great for endurance swims. They offer resistance and an opportunity to work on form with strokes. These swim paddles have adjustable wrist and finger straps to allow for a custom fit. The small holes reduce resistance, allowing for a smoother swim. They are available in three sizes: small, medium, and large.
A swim buoy is great for swim skill work. It can help lift your lower body so that you’re able to focus on swim strokes with your arms, and improve your swimming technique. This swim buoy has a contoured design that helps prevent it from slipping during swim workouts.
This larger bag zips closed and is great for carrying all the swim essentials. I use this large wet/dry bag to keep wet items separate from the rest of the bag, and this small wet/dry bag to organize small items (snacks, sunscreen, etc) separately, and then toss them into my larger swim bag. This mesh bag toggles closed and has a carry strap. It also keeps wet items ventilated!
Don’t forget to pack a beach towel! I like to choose towels that are super absorbent, light weight, and quick dry. This towel packs up into a small carry sack and comes in lots of different colorful designs. It is also sand-resistant, so it is a great towel to pack for the pool AND the beach.
Sunscreen is another thing you don’t want to forget! I like this sheer mineral facial sunscreen. It contains zinc oxide, but goes on smoothly without leaving a white tint. This one is SPF 30.
When I am swimming laps, I prefer athletic styles of swimsuit design. The tighter fabric reduces drag in the water, resulting in a better and more enjoyable swim. The fabric dries quickly as well. I try to choose durable, comfortable materials that can withstand frequent use and still retain their shape and resist color fade. I like the Sporti swimsuits, and have tried their swim brief, jammer, and square leg styles. They have lots of options!
I also love having a swim shorts option. These swim shorts look nice for walking around the swimming pool, relaxing in a lounge chair, and are also comfortable to swim in. They have a minimalist design, relaxed fit, and adjustable drawstring waist. They come in solid colors like black and navy, fun designs like this washed green, and you can also purchase coordinating linen shirts, like this collar shirt in olive. You can use code TIDYDAD30 for 30% off an order!
Swimming is great exercise! I’m able to make my swimming experience more enjoyable and effective by incorporating these items into my swim workouts. Consider trying out these swim essentials for men on your next swim to see how they can elevate your swimming experience.
