Our three daughters love to color and draw and create. We have tried a variety of art supplies over the years, and have discovered our favorites. In our opinion, these are the best art supplies for kids!
Kwik Stix paint sticks – Our girls LOVE painting, but it can get messy quickly. These paint sticks are a fun alternative! Kids can enjoy painting without all of the mess. The washable paint sticks don’t require any smocks, cups, water, or brushes. They have a variety of color and size packs, including a set of 12 classic colors, a set of 10 pastel colors, a set of 12 metallic colors, a set of 24 classic colors, and a set of 14 global skin tone colors. You simply take the cap off, twist the paint stick up, and then paint. It’s mess-free fun!
Magic Stix markers – This set of 24 washable markers (also available in a 36 pack or in a 48 pack) is designed to last for 7 days without drying out with the cap off. They have a triangular shape that helps kids be able to hold them with a stable tripod grasp, and also helps them to not roll off the table. They also include a carrying case for easy storage. They’re also available in a set of 12 global skin tone markers. They are the best markers!
Wonder Stix chalk crayons – These are like a dustless chalk crayon (available in a 12 pack or in a 24 pack) that can draw on lots of different surfaces. They work great on construction paper, poster board, and cardboard boxes. They are wipeable if used on whiteboards, chalkboards, windows, or glass. It’s a fun multi-surface drawing option for kids!
Color Wonder markers – These incredible markers only show color on specially formulated Color Wonder paper. That means you won’t find stray marks on skin, clothing, or furniture! There are a variety of coloring books available that work with the markers. Our girls also enjoy drawing on the blank coloring pad pages. It works with the entire Color Wonder line, including the markers, the paints, and the stamps.
Colored Pencils – Our girls love having a set of colored pencils to use for drawing and coloring. This set includes 50 colors and a pencil sharpener. We also like to keep colored pencils in the car along with other travel activities for kids, because they don’t melt like crayons sometimes do in the heat!
Crayon Rocks – These little crayon rocks are made from a non-toxic soy wax, and they are great for young kids to use to color. They allow little fingers to easily color in large, wide strokes. The crayons were specifically designed to strengthen the tripod grasp muscles in kids and improve fine motor coordination. They are available in bags containing 8 crayons (in a muslin bag or in a velvet bag), 16 crayons (in a muslin bag or in a velvet bag), or 32 crayons (in a muslin bag), and also class sets of 64 crayons. They appear small, but their volume is equal to classic stick crayons, and they are long lasting and durable.
Dot Markers – These dot markers are great for art activities because kids can paint without worrying about spills or messes. The sets include activity sheets that are designed to be decorate with dots. The paints dries quickly and comes in lots of fun colors. There are multiple versions available, including an 8 pack of regular colors, an 8 pack of glitter colors, and a 16 pack that includes both! Our girls love dabbing dots on paper, and using these to color, stamp, and decorate.
We hope you enjoyed this list of our favorite art supplies, and that it inspires you to try some new art activities with your kids. It’s a great way for them to creatively explore, learn, and create!
