Wintery Books for Kids

20 Big Trucks in the Middle of Christmas (ages 3-7): written by Mark Lee and illustrated by Kurt Cyrus

A snowy town is bustling with activity! A procession of trucks work together to make sure the town’s Christmas festivities go off without a hitch. This book teaches kids about the different ways that trucks work and move when it’s snowy outside. It also teaches readers how a community can come together to solve a problem.

The Robin and the Fir Tree (ages 3-7): originally written by Hans Christian Andersen, retold and illustrated by Jason Jameson

This retelling of the Hans Christian Andersen story “The Fir Tree” is full of exquisite illustrations. It’s a beautiful story about a tree who grows in a forest and dreams of the excitement of the outside world. One day he is cut down and taken away to be a Christmas tree in the middle of town. He thinks this is everything he ever wanted, but what will happen when his decorations are put away? It’s a sweet tale of friendship and new life.

‘Twas the Night Before Christmas  (ages 3-7): written by Clement C. Moore and illustrated by P.J. Lynch

This Christmas classic is a story we enjoy sharing with our girls before bedtime each year on Christmas Eve. In this version, P.J. Lynch brings the well-loved holiday poem to life with his watercolor illustrations. The beautifully illustrated pictures in shades of blue and green vibrantly come to life as Santa is discovered delivering gifts.

Wintery Books for Kids

Winter Lullaby (ages 4-8): written by Dianne White and illustrated by Ramona Kaulitzki

In this poetic story, a mama bear and her cub are preparing to hibernate for the winter. The little cub questions why it must go to sleep, because it sees all of the other animals playing outside and wants to stay up too. This sweet lullaby invites the cub to rest and prepare for new adventures in the spring. It’s a perfect winter bedtime story!

Wintery Books for Kids

Where’s Waldo? Santa Spotlight Search  (ages 5-9): by Martin Handford

I’ve enjoyed searching for Waldo since I was a young boy! In this new version, merry scenes are busy with activity as preparations for Christmas are underway. The pages are dark and the book includes a cool search wand that serves as a spotlight to brighten the pages, highlighting the hidden images! It is a fun, unique twist on the traditional books!

Wintery Books for Kids

Jasmine Green Rescues: A Donkey Called Mistletoe (ages 7-9): written by Helen Peters and illustrated by Ellie Snowdon

Our girls have several books in the Jasmine Green Rescues series and they enjoy seeing how Jasmine shows love and care to each of the animals she finds around Oak Tree Farm. In this book, Jasmine tried to find a new home for her elderly neighbor’s gentle donkey Mistletoe. She wants to bring him to live with her on her farm, but she realizes that a donkey is a lot of work. She also realizes that when the Christmas play needs help, she just might have the perfect understudy!

Wintery Books for Kids

Where Snow Angels Go (ages 7-10): written by Maggie O’Farrell and illustrated by Daniela Jaglenka Terrazzini

This beautifully imagined picture book seeks to answer the question, “What happens to a snow angel after you leave it behind?”. In this modern fairy tale with gorgeously detailed illustrations, a little girl discovers she has an unusual protector. The girl calls on this protector to help her with a monumental task, and with strength, charm, and courage finds a way to bring magic and wonder into her own home.

7 Festive and Wintery Books for Kids

About me

Hi, my name is Tyler Moore. My wife and I live with our three young daughters in a 700- square-foot apartment in New York City. I began my tidying journey when an early-30’s crisis invited me to reflect upon, challenge, and change my patterns of daily living. I quit my job as a school administrator, returned to teaching, and started Tidy Dad to help others tidy, simplify, and find joy in their lives. I firmly believe the tidying process can transform your life. I’d love for you to join me in exploring ways that tidying can make room for what’s important in life.
