Earth Runners – Alpha Lifestyle Sandals

This summer, we’re planning on spending lots of time at our cottage in the Poconos of Pennsylvania. I’m looking forward to spending time outside hiking, playing at the beach, and swimming. As I looked through my summer shoe collection, I realized that I only really had two options: running shoes and flip-flops. Neither shoe could adequately take me from the hiking trails to the beach.

When researching new summer sandals, I came across the Earth Runners brand. I loved the minimalist design of the sandals and that they provided strap support around the back of the foot. After trying out the Alpha Lifestlye sandals, I am convinced that they are the best summer sandals for men!

Barefoot Adventure Sandals

Earth Runners sandals were developed as an alternative to other sandals, which are often weak footwear for active summer play and rough terrains. Earth Runners Founder Mike Dally developed these sandals after studying running sandals developed by the Tarahumara Natives. He took inspiration from their time-tested sandal designs for trail running and developed his own line of barefoot adventure sandals.

Choosing a Style

Earth Runners sandals come in 2 styles: Adventure Sandals and Lifestyle Sandals. The only difference between the Adventure and Lifestyle sandals are the laces. The Adventure sandals feature performance laces for ultimate security and longevity while engaging in active outdoor activities, while the Lifestyle Sandals have thinner, more flexible laces for maximum comfort in casual everyday life. I decided to go with the Lifestyle Sandals.

Both styles feature 3 different sole choices: Elemental (thin), Circadian (mid), and Alpha (thick). I chose the Alpha soles because they have the thickest cushioned sole. Earth Runners recommends this style for people who are new to minimalist footwear or looking to walk longer distances. Each style also comes in a variety of bright or neutral colors. I chose the grey laces, and I like the neutral look of them.

Earth Runners fit differently than flip-flops or other buckle sandals, and it is important to correctly size your foot and consider the thickness of the sole that will be most comfortable for you. They have printable size templates and photos that help to guide you on how to make the best sizing decision.

Comfort & Fit

When my Alpha Lifestlye sandals arrived, I was so impressed with how easy the straps were to size and tighten. My feet feel secure when walking, and the straps are comfortable on my feet. The bottom of the soles are designed to conform to your feet. This style of sandal does take some getting used to, as the minimalist design resembles walking barefoot. The straps were initially a bit stiff and rigid, but have already started to soften with time. After several hours of use, my sandals started to conform to my feet. The sandals have gotten more comfortable every time I have worn them.

New Favorite Sandal

I am so happy with these Earth Runners sandals! They are lightweight and minimalist, yet support the back of my foot. I am comfortable wearing these on hiking trails, and actively playing outside with my daughters at the beach.
