Cottage Kitchen Tile Backsplash Project

Emily and I are so excited about our latest DIY project at our Woodland Cottage. Since purchasing the home in 2019, we’ve spent time adding our personal touches to the space! Several weeks ago we installed wallpaper for the very first time, and added a beautiful floral paper to the walls in our upstairs bathroom. Our latest project is our most ambitious yet, and involves adding tile to the kitchen backsplash.

Current Kitchen Design

The previous homeowner updated the kitchen with new cabinets, countertops, appliances, and flooring. The kitchen has a warm, rustic feel that mirrors the landscape of the Poconos Mountains. When selecting kitchen tile backsplash samples, we chose ones that would compliment the feel of the kitchen and also compliment the blues and greens that are incorporated into the designs of other rooms in the cottage.

For this project we’re partnering with Alexander James. Alexander James is a California-based company that sells factory direct tiles. They sell a wide variety of stone, porcelain, glass, ceramic, and cement tile. They work directly with customers to help them select the best option for their space. Their designer tile is then delivered directly to your door! We selected 9 kitchen tile backsplash samples from Alexander James so that we could see them in our space.

Our Selection

All 9 tile samples are beautiful and we like them for various reasons. We held each sample up next to the countertops, cabinets, and flooring in the kitchen. Then we also held them up in our living area that is next to the kitchen in the cottage. We wanted a tile that would compliment the deep blues and greens we have throughout the home.

After looking at all 9 tile samples, we chose the Handcraft Crème – 2.5×8 Gloss Ceramic. We love the glossy texture of this tile and the way it will help to bounce light around our U-shaped kitchen. The creme color compliments the flooring and cabinets. The solid color balances the busy multi-colored pattern of the countertops. We’re so excited to see this tile installed in our kitchen!
