We are currently quarantined at our Woodland Cottage in Pennsylvania, and have been here since our youngest daughter was only 3 days old. The only baby items we have with us are items that we could fit into the trunk of our car! We are sharing links to the 10 baby items we chose to pack. This list could be helpful as a minimalist baby registry, baby items for small spaces, items for a 2nd or 3rd baby, items to keep at a grandparent’s house or items to pack on vacation. We are finding these 10 items, along with some newborn clothes and diapers/wipes, are all we really need to care for our littlest girl.
1. Bassinet – This bassinet has a flat sleep surface and the elevated height is perfect for right next to our bed. It has the option to lock the feet, or to let the bassinet rock gently. The best part is the frame folds easily, which helps with storage, moving it from room to room, or in our situation, transporting it in our car trunk!
2. Bouncer Seat – This seat provides full head and back support, and allows the baby to bounce and rock gently with their own natural movements. It has adjustable heights, a washable fabric seat, and folds flat for storage. We love having a safe place to put the baby down and she loves to sit in it and watch her big sisters play!
3. Play Mat – We’ve used this play mat for all 3 girls! It is perfect for tummy time and play time, and includes a mirror, link toys, and a prop-up pillow. It is also washable, folds up, and is easy to transport from room to room.
4. Swaddle – This swaddle style is our favorite, because our daughter can sleep in her preferred arms-up position, while still calming her startle reflex. She stays zipped up and warm, and can move her arms around without breaking out of the swaddle or scratching her face. It can unzip from the bottom for easy diaper changes.
5. Nightlight – This nightlight is one of the few NEW items we’re using for the first time with baby #3, and I wish we had known about it sooner! It is a small bedside lamp with touch controls. You simply tap it to turn it on/off, and it emits a soft light. It’s bright enough to see to change the baby’s diaper, but not so bright to hurt your eyes in the middle of the night!
6. Sound Machine – This is the other new item we ordered for baby #3, to block some noise so that she could sleep peacefully while her older sisters play. It produces a soothing white noise from a real fan. We love it!
7. Bath Sling – This bath sling has soft mesh fabric that cradles the baby in the sink or bath tub. And it folds in half for easy storage!8. Nail Clippers with Light – It can be difficult to clip tiny newborn nails, but this nail clipper makes it so much easier with the built-in light!
9. Pacifier with Attached Animal – All 3 girls have loved this style of pacifier with an attached animal. Mabel had a brown monkey, Matilda had a grey hippo, and together they chose a white unicorn for little Margaret. The large size makes it easier to find in her bassinet in the night. It’s also so cute to watch her wrap her tiny hand around it to cuddle!
10. Baby Paper – This simple but fun toy is easy to grab and makes a crinkly noise without tearing!
