Epic road trips to Kentucky have become a yearly summer tradition! We look forward to spending time in our “Old Kentucky Home” with family and friends! We put together a list of Travel Tips that help us navigate the open road for hours upon hours with kids!

1. Pack Light: strategically and organized

  • Envision the activities you will be doing on the trip and determine your clothing needs.
  • Build out a small capsule wardrobe of mix & match clothing for each person.
  • Vertically fold your clothing so that you can easily locate each item.
  • Pack your clothing categories in packing cubes (these are incredible!) to keep your suitcase organized (here’s our favorite suitcase).
  • Bring a separate overnight bag if you’re staying in a hotel along the way.

2. Phone Tips: charged, close, and convenient

  • If you’re going on a road trip, you need multiple ways to keep your phone charged. Operating the GPS quickly drains the phone battery, and it’s often difficult to find easy access to a place to plug in a wall charger. Our car charger is essential, but we also like the option of using an external charger while we’re at a park, a store, or eating lunch.
  • Your phone case can double as wallet, so that you have an easy place to store your driver’s license and your credit cards, and don’t have to grab a separate wallet or purse each time you get in and out of the car.

3. Kid Items: organized and accessible

  • Establish a boundary for the amount of toys to bring into the car. Let your kids help choose what to pack, but keep it limited to a small designated bag
  • Keep toys accessible for your kids to reach while they’re riding in the backseat. We love this backseat organizer
  • Envision your road trip driving based on the needs of your kids and their normal daily schedules, and stop for outdoor playtime!

4. Travel Activities: creative and engaging
